STIMULUS WITH A PAST: MEMORY TASK PERFORMANCE AFFECTED BY FREQUENCY AND PROBABILITY OF INTENTIONAL ACTS INVOLVING THE STIMULUS By

چکیده
versus Episodic Representations In accordance with the instance theory of memory (Logan, 1988), the present work assumes that each encounter with a stimulus is encoded and stored as a separate instance. Intention is instrumental in the formation of instances because intention as goal-orientedness requires attention. And attention has been suggested to be a sufficient condition for binding co-occurring elements into instances (Logan & Etherton, 1994). Building on previous studies on repetition priming (Franks et al., 2000; Thompson-Schill & Gabrieli, 1999; Vriezen et al., 1995; Xiong et al., 2003), recognition (Bransford et al., 1979; Morris et al., 1977), and recall (Tulving, 1979; Tulving & Thomson, 1973), the present work inferred that intention is an inherent part of memory instance, and theorized that stimulus representation should include a collection of intention-specific instances.

Probability interrelations between pre-/post-stimulus intervals and ERD/ERS during a memory task.
OBJECTIVES To investigate the functional relationship between oscillatory electroencephalographic (EEG) components (pre-/post-stimulus intervals) with audio-event-related desynchronization/synchronization (ERD/ERS). METHODS In an experimental study (9 subjects), the probability-classification analysis of single-trial spectral EEG changes was utilized. Results were compared with auditory ERD/E...
متن کامل1 Why are some People Inattentionally Blind and can Training reduce its frequency of occurrence ?
Inattentional Blindness (IB) occurs when an observer who is engaged in a resource consuming task fails to notice an unexpected although salient stimulus appearing in his/her visual field. The incidence of IB can be affected by changes in stimulus-driven properties of the display, but very little research has examined individual differences in propensity for IB. The current research examines ind...
متن کاملReaction time as a function of perceptual bias, response bias, and stimulus discriminability.
The effects of stimulus discriminability, stimulus frequency, and response frequency were examined in a choice reaction time (RT) task. Two levels of response frequency ratio (i.e., one of two responses occurred two or five times as often as the other) were combined with three levels of stimulus configuration. Configuration was defined by the spatial distance between three stimulus lights. Perc...
متن کاملA Dual Diffusion Model for Single Cell Recording Data from the Superior Colliculus in a Brightness Discrimination Task
Monkeys made saccades to one of 2 peripheral targets based upon the brightness of a central stimulus. Task difficulty was manipulated by varying the ratio of stimulus black and white pixels. Correct response probability for 2 monkeys varied directly with difficulty. Deep layer SC neurons exhibited robust presaccadic activity whose magnitude was unaffected by task difficulty when the stimulus sp...
متن کاملThe reinforcing effect of two spoken sounds on the frequency of two responses.
The reinforcing effects of various stimuli presented immediately following a response have been investigated largely with infra-human Ss. In the context of experiments using the operant conditioning paradigm, the accepted definition of the reinforcing stimulus is a stimulus introduced following a response that increases the probability of occurrence of that response. Despite this research utili...
